Pillow connecting long distance lovers

Pillow Talk is a project by Joanna Montgomery and her interaction design studio that wants to use a set of connected pillows to give those in long distance relationships another way to stay in contact.

In today’s digital world, it’s easier than ever to maintain a relationship across distance, but existing methods of communication such as email or Facebook are very two-dimensional, often screen-based.

The device works by having each person place a sensor ring on their finger as they get ready for bed. The ring communicates with the other person’s pillow so that when one person goes to bed their partners pillow begins to glow softly to indicate their presence. The pillow also monitors the users heart rate in real-time and emits the muffled sound of the other person’s heartbeat from within the pillow.
